B2983 no longer meets CA Title 20 requirements, the most recent revision of Title 20 requirements excludes 2 speed motors (it actually excludes all induction motors and only allows variable speed motors), however there is a Federal Regulation (DOE DPPPM) that went into effect in September of 2025 that would preempt any state regulation.
The federal regulation would also recognize B2983 as a non-compliant motor nationally (not only in California), however that regulation notes that the cut-off date is reliant on manufacturers, and manufacturers are not permitted to build any new inventory on or after September 29th 2025.
In short, this motor can be used and installed for existing installations/repairs in CA and NY, but has been discontinued by Century/Regal Rexnord, can no longer be made.
