When replacing the latch-lock rings, inspect the mating surfaces on both the pump and filter housing for cracks or deformation before reassembling. Damaged seating surfaces can prevent the rings from locking securely even with new hardware installed. Replace both rings at the same time — they wear at the same rate, and replacing only one leaves uneven clamping force on the assembly.
