About This Item
The Hayward Drain Plug with O-Ring (CX250Z14A) is the OEM replacement drain plug assembly for Hayward StarClear and StarClear Plus cartridge filters. This kit includes both the drain plug and the O-ring required for a complete, watertight seal.
IMPORTANT: KIT INCLUDES DRAIN PLUG AND O-RING
This listing includes both the drain plug and its O-ring as a matched assembly. Both components are required for a proper seal — no separate O-ring purchase is needed.
IMPORTANT: LUBRICATION REQUIRED — SOLD SEPARATELY
Always lubricate the O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. Browse our Pool Plumbing Lubricants for a compatible silicone lubricant.
The drain plug seals the tank drain port on the filter housing, allowing water to be retained during normal operation and fully drained when the filter requires cleaning, servicing, or winterisation. Replacing this assembly restores a watertight seal and eliminates drips at the drain port.

Poolaroo Pro Tip
Before threading the drain plug back into the filter housing, apply a light coat of silicone-based lubricant to the O-ring — never petroleum-based grease, which degrades rubber over time. Hand-tighten only; over-torquing the plug can crack the housing threads. Find a compatible lubricant in our Pool Plumbing Lubricants collection.
