The Hayward Equalizer Valve (SP1078) is the OEM replacement equalizer valve for the SP1070 Skim-Master and SP1080 Auto-Skim series skimmers.

When water levels drop below the skimmer opening, this float-actuated valve responds automatically — diverting all pump flow from the equalizer line to prevent airlock and protect the pump from running dry. Once the water level is restored and the pump is shut off, the internal float rises to close the valve, returning the skimmer to normal operation on the next pump start.

When installing the SP1078, check the float mechanism for freedom of movement before reinstalling the skimmer body. A float that sticks open leaves the equalizer line permanently active, reducing surface skimming efficiency. Inspect the equalizer port and surrounding seat for debris or scale buildup and clear it before seating the new valve.
