When reassembling the pump housing, tighten all housing cap screws evenly in a cross-pattern to distribute clamping load uniformly across the housing flange. Uneven torque can distort the mating surfaces and cause a slow leak even with a new O-ring in place. If you are replacing one screw, inspect the remaining screws for corrosion or thread damage and replace the full set as needed to maintain consistent clamping.
