This O-ring seals the strainer lid on compatible Hayward equipment, preventing air ingestion and water loss at the strainer housing. Replacing a worn, cracked, or flattened O-ring restores a proper pressure seal and eliminates air leaks that can reduce pump prime and flow performance.

Before reinstalling the strainer lid, clean the O-ring groove of any debris or old lubricant residue, then apply a fresh coat of silicone-based lubricant to the O-ring — never use petroleum-based grease, which degrades rubber over time.
