This basket sits inside the skimmer body to capture leaves, debris, and surface contaminants before they reach the pump. Replacing a cracked, warped, or missing basket restores the skimmer's ability to protect the pump strainer basket and maintain consistent water flow through the filtration system.

Inspect the basket for hairline cracks along the rim and base at the start of each swim season — a fractured basket allows debris to bypass into the pump, accelerating wear on the pump strainer and impeller. When reinstalling, ensure the basket seats fully and evenly in the skimmer body; a partially seated basket can restrict flow and trigger apparent pump suction issues that are easily mistaken for a plumbing problem.
