The Hayward Strainer Retainer C-Clip (SPX5500G) is the OEM replacement retaining clip that secures the strainer basket assembly inside the pump housing on PowerFlo Matrix pumps.
This small but essential clip holds the strainer basket in its correct position within the pump strainer housing. A failed, cracked, or missing retainer clip can allow the basket to shift during operation, compromising debris capture and potentially allowing contaminants to reach the impeller.

When servicing the strainer basket, inspect the retainer clip at the same time. These clips are subject to repeated flexing each time the basket is removed and reinstalled, and a hairline crack is easy to miss. Replacing a worn clip proactively during routine basket cleaning is far simpler than dealing with a shifted basket after the pump lid is back on.
