When servicing a pool or spa light niche, inspect the gasket for compression set, cracking, or hardening — a gasket that no longer springs back under light finger pressure will not seal reliably. Replace the gasket any time the niche is removed from the shell to avoid a return trip. Pool lighting components operate in wet environments; niche installation must comply with NEC Article 680 and be performed by a licensed electrician.
