The Hayward Key (SPX0715C) is the OEM replacement key for Hayward VariFlo side-mount, top-mount, and XL control valve assemblies.
This key interfaces directly with the rotor assembly inside the VariFlo valve, enabling the user to manually rotate the rotor to each valve position — Filter, Backwash, Rinse, Waste, Recirculate, and Closed. Replacing a worn or damaged key restores precise, positive positioning control of the valve.

Before removing the old key, note the current valve position so the rotor is not accidentally displaced during the swap. When reinstalling, ensure the key seats fully into the rotor tang — a partially seated key can crack under normal operating torque and cause the valve to lose its position detents.
