What It Does
The strainer housing forms the front body of the pump's pre-filter assembly, enclosing the strainer basket that captures debris before water reaches the impeller. Replacing a cracked, warped, or leaking housing restores a proper seal to the wet end and prevents bypass flow that can allow debris to reach the pump internals.

When fitting the replacement housing, inspect the lid O-ring and body O-rings at the same time — a distorted or hardened O-ring is a common cause of strainer housing leaks and is inexpensive to replace while the wet end is already open. Check the strainer basket for cracks before reassembly; a cracked basket allows debris to pass through regardless of how tight the housing seal is.
