The Hayward Folding Lateral Assembly 18" (SX180DAS) is the OEM replacement lateral assembly for Hayward ProSeries top-mount sand filters ranging from 18" to 27" tank diameter.
The folding lateral assembly sits at the base of the filter tank and collects filtered water after it has passed through the sand bed, directing clean water back to the return line while preventing sand from passing through. When a lateral cracks or becomes blocked, water clarity and filter efficiency are directly affected — replacing this assembly restores proper filtration performance.

When replacing the lateral assembly, take the opportunity to inspect the standpipe and hub assembly for hairline cracks, and check that the underdrain manifold seats fully and evenly before adding fresh filter sand. Refilling sand over a misaligned lateral assembly is a common source of sand passing through to the pool.
