Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.
This O-ring provides the primary pressure seal between the filter tank body and lid on compatible Sta-Rite sand filter models. A worn, cracked, or deformed O-ring in this position results in water leaking at the filter lid joint during normal operating pressure. Replacing this seal restores a watertight closure and prevents pressure loss across the filter housing.

Before seating the new O-ring, clean the O-ring groove and mating lid surface thoroughly — any grit or residue left in the groove is a common cause of premature seal failure. Apply a thin, even coat of silicone-based lubricant to the O-ring before installation. Use the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard Silicone Lubricant for an OEM-matched option. Never use petroleum-based lubricants on rubber O-rings — they degrade the rubber and shorten seal life.
