About This Item
The Pentair Sand Drain (152220Z) is the OEM replacement 2-inch left-hand thread drain for Pentair Triton II, Tagelus, and Triton C series sand filters.
What It Does
The sand drain provides the primary bottom-port drain point on the filter tank, allowing the sand bed and water to be evacuated during seasonal winterisation, sand replacement, or routine service. The 2-inch left-hand thread fitting seals the drain port under normal operating pressure and releases with a counter-clockwise turn — the opposite direction from standard fittings, so confirm thread orientation before installation.

Poolaroo Pro Tip
Left-hand thread fittings tighten clockwise when viewed from outside the tank and loosen counter-clockwise — the reverse of standard plumbing fittings. When removing the drain, turn it clockwise (toward the right) to break it loose. Apply PTFE thread tape counter-clockwise (wrapping right to left on the threads) when reinstalling to ensure the tape seats correctly rather than unwinding during installation.
