This tank O-ring maintains the pressure seal between the upper and lower halves of the SMBW 2000 Series filter tank. A compromised O-ring is the most common cause of leaks at the tank seam — replacing it restores a watertight seal and returns the filter to proper operating pressure.

Before seating the new O-ring, clean the O-ring groove thoroughly to remove any debris, old lubricant residue, or mineral deposits — contamination in the groove is a leading cause of premature seal failure. Apply a thin, even coat of Pentair R172351 Lifeguard Silicone Lubricant to the O-ring before reassembling the tank. Never use petroleum-based lubricants — they degrade rubber O-rings and will cause this seal to fail prematurely.
