Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.
This O-ring seals the valve adapter connection on compatible Pentair sand filter tanks and valve bodies. A worn or cracked adapter O-ring allows water to bypass the seal at the valve-to-tank interface, resulting in leaks at the valve base or reduced system pressure. Replacing this O-ring restores a watertight seal at the adapter fitting.

Before installing this O-ring, clean the seating groove thoroughly to remove any old rubber fragments, mineral scale, or debris — even a small piece of grit can prevent a full seal and cause an immediate re-leak. Apply a thin coat of Pentair R172351 Lifeguard Silicone Lubricant to the O-ring before seating it. Never use petroleum-based lubricants — they degrade rubber O-rings and will cause premature failure. For models requiring 2 O-rings, replace both at the same time even if only one shows visible wear; the second is under the same service conditions and will typically fail shortly after.
