The Pentair Sight Glass, (272550) is the OEM replacement sight glass for the HiFlow Six-Way 1-1/2 In. Top Mount Multiport Valve and the TA Tagelus Top Mount Multiport Valve used with Pentair sand filters.
IMPORTANT: DATE-OF-MANUFACTURE RESTRICTION
This sight glass was not included on valves manufactured before March 1, 1993. Verify your valve's manufacture date before ordering — if your valve predates this cutoff, it was not built to accept this component.
THIS SIGHT GLASS IS NON-VENTED - COMPATIBLE REPLACEMENT
This sight glass does not have a vent (vacuum projector). Pentair service confirms prior versions of this same part WERE vented (vacuum/VAC projector), and this has been replaced with a non-vented sight glass. The vacuum projector model was discontinued due to excessive wear and leakage. This sight glass is a compatible replacement for vented sight glasses for High Flow Six-Way 1-1/2" Top Mount Valves after March 1st, 1993.
The sight glass mounts to the multiport valve body and provides a visual indicator of water flow and clarity during filter operation and backwash cycles. A missing or cracked sight glass can result in loss of visibility into valve performance and potential leakage at the port. Vented sight glass parts are prone to wear from the flapper, cracking and continual leakage. Thus this non-vented model is now being used and will ensure a solid seal for your sight glass when backwashing and under pressure changes.

When replacing the sight glass, inspect the sight glass gasket at the same time — the gasket seals the glass against the valve body and is a common source of weeping leaks if left in service when the glass is replaced. Confirm your valve's manufacture date before ordering: valves built before March 1, 1993 do not have a sight glass port and cannot accept this part.
SIGHT GLASS GASKET NOT INCLUDED - SOLD SEPARATELY
If your sight glass is leaking from the base, your gasket may also need to be replaced. The replacement gasket for this is P/N 271106Z.
