This lid seals the pump strainer basket housing, maintaining the watertight closure necessary for the pump to hold prime and sustain consistent flow. A cracked, warped, or improperly fitting lid allows air to enter the suction side of the pump, leading to loss of prime and reduced circulation performance.

A worn or flattened O-ring is the most common cause of lid-related air leaks — even a new lid won't seal reliably against a degraded O-ring.
