The Pentair Impeller Set Screw (071652Z) is the OEM replacement 1/4-20 x 1 left-hand thread Phillips set screw for securing the impeller to the motor shaft in Pentair WhisperFlo, IntelliFlo, SuperFlo, and SuperMax pump series.
IMPORTANT: VERSION / DATE QUALIFIER — INTELLIPRO AND INTELLIFLO MODELS
For IntelliPro VS+SVRS pumps, this screw applies to units manufactured after June 2016. For IntelliFlo i1 and i2 Variable Speed pumps, this screw applies to units manufactured after April 2016. Confirm your pump's manufacture date before ordering.
This set screw threads into the impeller hub and locks the impeller onto the motor shaft. The left-hand (LH) thread is critical — it is intentionally opposite to standard right-hand thread to prevent the impeller from loosening under normal pump rotation. Installing a standard right-hand screw in this application will result in impeller loss during operation. Replace this screw any time the impeller is removed for service or when the existing screw shows corrosion, thread damage, or stripping.

When reinstalling the impeller, hand-tighten this left-hand screw first to confirm it is threading correctly — left-hand threads tighten counter-clockwise. A screw that feels unusually easy to turn clockwise is cross-threading, not tightening. Use a Phillips screwdriver (not a power driver) for final torque to avoid stripping the head. Keep one spare on hand: this small screw is a common service item that is easy to lose during impeller removal, and pump downtime while waiting for a replacement is avoidable.
