Always lubricate the included O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.
The closure assembly threads onto the Triton II filter tank body, creating a pressure-tight seal that keeps the filter media contained and the system operating at rated working pressure. The included O-ring seats between the closure and the tank collar to prevent water bypass. A damaged or deteriorated closure — or a worn O-ring — can result in leaks at the tank head, loss of filter pressure, and potential sand blowback into the pool. Replacing the complete closure assembly restores a reliable, pressure-rated seal at the tank opening.

Pro Tip
Before threading the closure onto the tank, apply a thin, even coat of Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant to the O-ring. This allows the closure to seat fully without pinching or rolling the O-ring during installation — a common cause of leaks at the tank head. Never use petroleum-based lubricants; they will degrade the O-ring and shorten its service life significantly. If your existing closure shows cracking, thread wear, or deformation at the collar, replace the full assembly rather than the O-ring alone.
