The Pentair O-Ring Lid to Housing (R172223Z) is the OEM replacement lid-to-housing O-ring for the Pentair Leaf Trap series and Dynamic Filter Series inline cartridge filters and dispensers.

Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.
This O-ring seals the lid-to-housing joint on Pentair Leaf Trap and compatible inline filter and dispenser units. When this seal degrades, the lid joint loses its watertight integrity — resulting in air ingestion, loss of prime, or water leakage at the housing. Replacing this O-ring at the first sign of cracking, flattening, or weeping restores a proper seal and protects the equipment from debris bypass and pressure loss.

Pro Tip
Before installation, apply a thin coat of Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant to the O-ring. This helps seat it evenly in the groove, prevents tearing during lid assembly, and extends service life. Never use petroleum-based lubricants — they will degrade the rubber and shorten the life of the new O-ring. If your leaf trap lid has been difficult to seat or has been leaking at the joint, inspect the O-ring groove itself for debris or damage before installing the replacement.
