About This Item
The Pentair Cartridge Element (R173214) is the OEM replacement 75 sq. ft. filter cartridge for the Pentair Clean & Clear and Predator cartridge filter lines.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: MODEL YEAR QUALIFIER — CLEAN & CLEAR FILTER SYSTEMS
This cartridge is confirmed for Clean & Clear Filter Systems manufactured 2009 and beyond. If your filter predates 2009, verify the part number against your equipment manual or the label on your existing cartridge before ordering.
The cartridge element is the primary filtration media in your Pentair cartridge filter. Water passes through the pleated polyester fabric, which captures debris, oils, and fine particulate before returning filtered water to the pool. When the filter pressure rises 8–10 PSI above the clean starting pressure, the cartridge requires cleaning or replacement. A degraded or collapsed cartridge reduces filtration efficiency and can allow fine debris to pass through to the pool.

Pro Tip
Before ordering, confirm the square footage rating of your existing cartridge — it is typically printed on the end cap or molded into the cartridge core. A 75 sq. ft. cartridge is not interchangeable with 100 sq. ft. or 150 sq. ft. elements even when the filter housing looks identical. When replacing the cartridge, inspect the filter tank O-ring and air relief assembly at the same time; addressing worn ancillary components during the same service interval avoids a second teardown.
