The Pentair U9-226Z is the OEM replacement union O-ring for the JWP pump configuration, also serving as a water system O-ring across the MasterTemp heater series and System:2 Modular Media Filter (PLM Series).

When servicing with the Pentair 461100 Heater Master Kit (MasterTemp / Max-E-Therm), this O-ring is included in that kit — 2 are required per unit. If ordering individually for that application, purchase 2.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: LUBRICATION REQUIRED — SOLD SEPARATELY
Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.
This O-ring seals the union connection on the JWP pump and the water system unions on MasterTemp heaters. A failed or worn O-ring at the union joint allows water to weep past the connection under pressure, leading to equipment pads, cabinets, or plumbing joints accumulating water damage over time. Replacing this O-ring at each service interval — or whenever the union is disassembled — restores a leak-free seal. Match the U9-226Z part number against the number molded on your existing O-ring before ordering.

Pro Tip
Before installation, apply a thin coat of Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant to the O-ring. This helps seat it evenly in the union groove, prevents tearing during reassembly, and extends service life. Never use petroleum-based lubricants — they will degrade rubber O-rings and cause premature failure. When this O-ring is disturbed during heater union service, also inspect the union nut threads and union faces for any cracking or surface damage before reassembling. Gas and electrical heater components must be serviced by a licensed pool professional or qualified HVAC technician. Do not attempt to service gas or high-voltage components without proper certification.
