About This Item
The Pentair 071422Z is the OEM replacement strainer cover O-ring for WhisperFlo pumps manufactured prior to November 1998. This O-ring seals the strainer cover to the pump body, preventing air intrusion and water leaks at the strainer housing.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: LUBRICATION REQUIRED — SOLD SEPARATELY
Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: PRE-NOVEMBER 1998 PUMPS ONLY
Part 071422Z fits WhisperFlo pumps manufactured before November 1998. If your pump was built after that date, this is not the correct O-ring. Check the date code on your pump label or the part number stamped on your existing O-ring before ordering.
A failed or hardened strainer cover O-ring allows air to be drawn into the pump, breaking prime and reducing circulation efficiency. Replacing this O-ring at the first sign of cracking, flattening, or leaking restores the airtight seal the strainer housing requires to maintain consistent water flow.

Pro Tip
Before installation, apply a thin coat of Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant to the O-ring. This helps seat it evenly in the groove, prevents tearing during assembly, and extends service life. Never use petroleum-based lubricants — they will degrade the rubber and cause premature failure. While the strainer cover is off, inspect the cover itself for hairline cracks, particularly around the locking tabs, as a damaged cover will defeat even a new O-ring.
