About This Item
The Pentair Lateral (150084Z) is the OEM replacement black lateral for Sand Dollar SD35 and SD40 sand filters and Cristal-Flo II filter systems with 16-inch and 19-inch tanks.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: VERSION / DATE QUALIFIER
This black lateral is designed for Sand Dollar SD35 and SD40 filters manufactured after October 2004, and for Cristal-Flo II systems manufactured 2009 and beyond. Confirm your filter's manufacture date before ordering — earlier production units use a different lateral.
The lateral is a slotted distribution arm that mounts to the standpipe hub at the base of the filter tank. In a sand filter, laterals allow filtered water to pass through while retaining the sand bed. A cracked or broken lateral allows sand to bypass into the pool return line — replacing a damaged lateral restores proper filtration and stops sand from entering the pool.

Pro Tip
Sand filter laterals typically fail from stress fractures at the base where they seat into the hub — inspect all laterals in the assembly when you have the tank open. If one is cracked, others are likely close behind. Replacing the full set at the same service interval saves a repeat teardown. Count the laterals in your existing assembly and confirm the quantity needed before ordering individual pieces.
