If you are reloading filter sand, inspect the laterals at the bottom of the tank before reinstalling the sand guide. Cracked or broken laterals will pass sand into the pool regardless of how carefully the sand is added — replacing damaged laterals at the same time avoids having to drain and reopen the tank a second time.
