When replacing the T-valve, inspect the retaining clip seat inside the housing for wear or cracking; a compromised seat can cause the new clip to unseat prematurely under operating pressure.
Pentair offers two dedicated tools that make T-valve and clip service significantly easier: part 543259 (removal claw/pry bar, used to extract the retaining clip without damage) and part 235090 (lock-down punch, with correctly spaced points to seat the retention pins without cracking the clip). These tools are an additional investment — they are most cost-effective for service professionals performing regular maintenance on Wave valve systems.
