Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.

This O-ring provides the primary seal within the ball valve assembly. A failed or degraded O-ring can allow water to bypass the valve seat, resulting in leaks at the valve body and loss of flow control.
