Always lubricate this O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant before installation. We carry the Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant — the OEM-matched product for Pentair equipment.
The tank cord ring seals the joint between the upper and lower tank halves on System 3 filters. A compromised cord ring allows water to bypass the seal at the tank mid-section, resulting in visible leaks at the tank band and loss of system pressure. Replacing this ring restores a watertight seal at the tank split line. Match the part number on your existing cord ring before ordering — this listing is specific to 21-inch tank configurations.

Pro Tip
Before installation, apply a thin coat of Pentair R172351 Lifeguard® Silicone Lubricant to the cord ring. This helps seat it evenly in the tank groove, prevents tearing during assembly, and extends service life. Never use petroleum-based lubricants — they will degrade the rubber and cause premature seal failure. When the filter is open for a cord ring replacement, inspect the tank band clamp and clamp hardware for corrosion and replace if worn.
