The Pentair Thermal Regulator Kit (460924) is the OEM replacement thermal regulator assembly for Max-E-Therm and MasterTemp ASME heaters built with the original header design, manufactured prior to October 2012. This kit includes the spring clip and is specific to the old header configuration — it is not interchangeable with post-October 2012 heater designs.

This kit fits ASME-rated Max-E-Therm and MasterTemp heaters manufactured prior to October 2012 (old header design). Heaters built from October 2012 onward use a different thermal regulator and are not compatible with this kit. Check the date code on your heater's rating plate before ordering.

Gas and electrical heater components must be serviced by a licensed pool professional or qualified HVAC technician. Do not attempt to service gas or high-voltage components without proper certification.
The thermal regulator controls water flow through the heater's heat exchanger by responding to water temperature. When the regulator fails or degrades, it can cause erratic water temperature, inadequate heating performance, or potential heat exchanger damage from insufficient flow. Replacing the complete kit — regulator and spring clip together — restores proper thermal management to the heater's water circuit.

Before ordering, locate the rating plate on your heater and confirm two things: (1) the heater carries an ASME rating, and (2) the manufacture date is prior to October 2012. Heaters built from October 2012 onward use a revised header design and require a different thermal regulator kit — this kit will not fit those units. If you are unsure of your heater's build date, the serial number format on the rating plate typically encodes the manufacture date; consult your heater's installation manual for the decode key. As a heater component, this work must be carried out by a licensed pool professional or qualified HVAC technician.
