The low pressure switch is a safety and control component within the heat pump's refrigerant circuit. When refrigerant pressure drops below the switch's threshold — due to a refrigerant leak, blocked airflow, or a faulty expansion valve — the switch interrupts the compressor circuit, preventing compressor damage.
