The stack flue sensor monitors exhaust gas temperature in the heater's flue stack. When the sensor detects temperatures outside the safe operating range, it signals the control system to shut the heater down, protecting the heat exchanger and surrounding components from thermal damage. A failed or out-of-range stack flue sensor will typically trigger a fault code and prevent the heater from firing.
