About This Item
OEM Replacement Quartz Sleeve for the Pentair BioShield UV System
The Pentair Quartz Sleeve 22-1/4" (523039) is the OEM replacement quartz sleeve for the BioShield UV System 50 Watt (Model 522635). When this sleeve clouds, cracks, or accumulates mineral scale, UV transmittance drops and sanitizer output falls — this is the direct replacement to restore full system performance.
What It Does
The quartz sleeve surrounds the UV lamp inside the BioShield chamber, allowing UV-C light to pass through to the water flow path while isolating the lamp from direct water contact. Quartz is used specifically because of its high UV transmittance — standard glass blocks the wavelengths required for effective sanitization. A fouled or damaged sleeve reduces UV output at the lamp surface, compromising the system's ability to inactivate pathogens. Replacing the sleeve on schedule restores the optical clarity the system depends on.

Pro Tip
Inspect the quartz sleeve whenever you service the UV lamp. Even if the sleeve appears intact, mineral scale and biofilm accumulation reduce UV transmittance significantly over time — a visually clear sleeve can still be underperforming. Clean the sleeve with a dilute acid solution per the BioShield installation manual before reinstalling, and replace it if any cloudiness, etching, or cracking is present. Replacing the lamp and sleeve together at the same service interval is the most efficient approach.
