The Pentair Quartz Sleeve 65" (523042) is the OEM replacement quartz sleeve for the BioShield UV System 150 Watt sanitizer units. This is the protective quartz tube that surrounds the UV lamp inside the BioShield chamber, and it is sold individually as a single sleeve.
What It Does
The quartz sleeve acts as a transparent barrier between the UV lamp and the water flowing through the sanitizer chamber. Quartz transmits UV-C light with minimal attenuation, allowing the lamp to deliver its full germicidal output to the water stream. Over time, mineral scale and biofilm accumulation on the sleeve surface reduce UV transmission efficiency — a fouled or cracked sleeve directly compromises sanitizer performance. Replacing a damaged or scaled sleeve restores the system to its rated UV output.

Inspect the quartz sleeve each time you replace the UV lamp. Even if the sleeve is not visibly cracked, mineral scale buildup reduces UV-C transmission — a sleeve that looks intact can still be blocking a significant portion of germicidal output. If your water is hard or you have not cleaned the sleeve in more than one season, replacement at the same time as the lamp is the more reliable approach. Confirm your BioShield unit's model number (522638 or 522945) before ordering — both are 150W units but are listed separately in Pentair's parts documentation.
