The cartridge is the primary filtration element inside the Model 186 Leaf Trap, capturing leaves, debris, and fine particulate before they reach the pump basket or impeller. The included plug seals the cartridge port during removal and reinstallation, preventing unfiltered water bypass. When the cartridge becomes clogged or damaged, flow restriction increases and debris capture efficiency drops — replacing it with the correct OEM cartridge restores the leaf trap to full operating capacity.
