About This Item

If your pool or spa runs on bromine, guessing at water balance isn't an option. The Taylor K-2106 FAS-DPD Bromine Complete Test Kit gives you laboratory-grade accuracy at home — no color-matching required for sanitizer readings. This is the same 2000-series testing platform trusted by pool professionals, now in a compact 3/4 oz bottle format sized for residential use.

What This Kit Tests

  • Total Bromine — FAS-DPD titration method (0–20+ ppm)
  • pH — Phenol Red indicator, measurement range 6.8–8.2
  • Total Alkalinity — Acid-base titration (0–400 ppm)
  • Calcium Hardness — EDTA titration (0–800 ppm)

Why FAS-DPD Is Better for Bromine Testing

Standard DPD test kits require you to match a color swatch to determine your sanitizer level — a process that's notoriously subjective, especially in bright sunlight. The FAS-DPD titration method works differently: you add drops of titrant until the sample turns from pink to completely clear. That endpoint is unambiguous. Each drop you add equals a precise measurement increment, so your bromine reading is a count — not a color judgment. The result is far more accurate and repeatable, particularly at higher bromine levels where DPD color cards become difficult to read.

What's in the Kit

The K-2106 includes all reagents needed to run all four tests, packaged in Taylor's 3/4 oz (22 mL) dropper bottles:

  • R-0870 — FAS-DPD Powder Reagent (bromine titration indicator)
  • R-0871 — FAS-DPD Titrating Reagent (bromine titrant)
  • R-0004 — Phenol Red Indicator Solution (pH)
  • R-0005 — Acid Demand Reagent (pH adjustment reference)
  • R-0006 — Base Demand Reagent (pH adjustment reference)
  • R-0007 — Total Alkalinity Indicator
  • R-0008 — Sulfuric Acid Titrating Reagent (alkalinity)
  • R-0010 — Calcium Hardness Indicator
  • R-0011L — Calcium Hardness Titrating Reagent
  • Taylor 2000-series comparator block, test tubes, and instruction booklet

How to Use It — The Basics

  1. Collect your sample — Draw water from elbow depth (about 18 inches below the surface), away from return jets and skimmers. Use the included test tube.
  2. Run bromine first — Add the FAS-DPD powder and titrating reagent drop by drop, counting drops until the pink color disappears completely. Each drop = 0.5 ppm bromine.
  3. Test pH — Add Phenol Red drops to a fresh sample and compare the resulting color to the 2000-series comparator block. Target range: 7.2–7.8.
  4. Test Alkalinity & Hardness — Follow the titration procedures in the included instruction booklet. Both are drop-count tests with clear endpoints.
  5. Record and act — Note your readings and adjust chemicals as needed before your next swim.

Reagent Storage & Shelf Life

Store all reagents in a cool, dark location — a cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat is ideal. Avoid freezing. Properly stored, most reagents in this kit remain accurate for 1–2 years. Taylor prints lot numbers on each bottle; check the Taylor Technologies website for expiration guidance by lot if needed. Replace any reagent that has changed color, become cloudy, or is past its use-by date — an expired reagent gives a false reading, which is worse than no reading at all.

Compatible Pool & Spa Systems

Designed specifically for bromine-sanitized pools, spas, and hot tubs. Works with all pool surface types — vinyl, plaster, fiberglass, and painted concrete. Not intended for chlorine-primary pools (see the Taylor K-2006 for chlorine FAS-DPD testing).

⚠ Reagent Handling: Some reagents contain mild acids and chemical indicators. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Rinse thoroughly with water if contact occurs. Keep out of reach of children. Dispose of spent reagents per local regulations.

Pro Tip: Always run your bromine test before pH. Phenol Red (the pH indicator) can be affected by high sanitizer levels and give a falsely low pH reading. Testing bromine first — and knowing your level is in range — ensures your pH result is reliable.
